China is simplifying procedures to make it easier for top foreign talent to get permanent residency, China Daily reported Friday, citing a senior official in charge of foreign expert affairs. The government gives priority to high-level foreign talent including those with expertise in environmental pollution, Zhang Jianguo, head of the State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs, was quoted as saying. At present, procedures for foreign experts to obtain permanent residency are complicated. A task force is coordinating departments in an effort to fine-tune the process, the report said. China usually grants its version of green cards to foreigners in certain categories, including businessmen who have invested at least US$500,000 in the country, as well as technical personnel and spouses of Chinese nationals.
