Taiwan chip industry to break NT$2 trln barrier, paper says

The value of production from Taiwan’s chip industry is expected to exceed NT$2 trillion (US$65.9 billion) to reach NT$2.098 trillion in 2014, up 11.1 percent year on year, the Economic Daily News reported Tuesday, citing data from the island’s Industrial Economics and Knowledge Center. The industry’s output value rose 15.6 percent year on year in 2013 to NT$1.888 trillion, with the biggest growth — 20.2 percent to NT$996.5 billion – seen in integrated circuit manufacturing. The center projects the IC design sector to post the industry’s greatest growth this year, expanding 12.8 percent to NT$542.5 billion, the report said.
