China’s steel industry is on course to post its worst quarter in 15 years, China Securities Journal reported Wednesday, citing industry data. About 43 percent of manufacturers made losses in January and showed no improvement in February, the China Iron and Steel Association was quoted as saying. Demand fell 8.6 percent year on year in January when steel production was down 3.2 percent. Tighter environmental standards and shortage of capital have exacerbated the problem, the report said.
