Dozens of foreigners in Shanghai have failed to register their place of residence, Shanghai Daily reported Friday, citing the police. Spot checks by authorities this month found 57 expats were living in unregistered residences in Changning, Xuhui, Huangpu, Jing’an and Minhang districts and in the Pudong New Area. In one case, an expat did not inform officials when he moved from his Pudong home. All foreigners must register their place of residence within 24 hours of arrival. Anyone without a valid registration document faces a fine of up to 2,000 yuan (US$321).
