Villagers are expected to benefit when a roughly 30,000 square meter block of collectively owned rural land in Shenzhen’s Pingshan New District goes up for sale, the Securities Times reported Friday, citing the Shenzhen Urban Planning and Land Resources Commission. The commission said the block has been added to its land bank for sale and villagers will be rewarded as “individual shareholders”. This is the second rural plot Shenzhen has included in its land reserves. It sold a 14,600 square meter area of land in Baoan district in December for 116 million yuan (US$18.633 million). The land use of the two blocks has been changed to urban construction, the report said.
