Taiwan legislature may be focus of more protests, paper says

Taiwan’s Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) plans to call on protestors to besiege the Legislative Yuan Friday to demonstrate against the “illegal” handling of the cross-strait service pact by the ruling Kuomintang’s legislators, the Liberty Times reported Friday, citing an agreement among many protest groups Thursday. The groups said the pact should be reviewed clause by clause by the parliament’s committee otherwise the document should be referred back to the mainland for the further negotiation. DPP chairman Su Tseng-chang said President Ma Ying-jeou should apologize to the people immediately and that no police force should be used on protestors, who have set a noon deadline for Ma’s response, the report said.
