The China Food and Drug Administration (CFDA) is set to unveil regulations on the licensing, manufacture, operation and use of medical equipment, the Economic Information Daily reported Monday, citing industry sources. The new rules are likely to result in a wave of mergers and acquisitions in the industry, the sources said. According to data from the China Association for Medical Devices Industry, the sector had sales of around 400 billion yuan (US$64.247 billion) in 2013 and is expected to grow to 500 billion yuan by 2016. At the end of 2013, there were nearly 16,000 medical equipment manufacturers in China, the report said.
