NSA breached Huawei servers seen as security threat, paper says

Classified documents show that the US’ National Security Agency created its own back doors directly into networks operated by Chinese telecommunications giant Huawei, the New York Times reported Saturday. According to NSA documents provided by former contractor Edward Snowden, the agency obtained information about the workings of the company’s routers and complex digital switches, and monitored communications of the company’s top executives, the report said. The plans for the operation also included exploiting Huawei’s technology so that when the company sold equipment to other countries the NSA could penetrate computer and telephone networks to conduct surveillance and, if ordered by the president, offensive cyberoperations, the report said.
