Govt in quest to fire up more off-grid solar power, paper says

The National Energy Administration will meet Thursday to find ways to support off-grid solar power systems, Economic Information Daily reported Wednesday, citing Wang Sicheng, a researcher at the National Development and Reform Commission’s Energy Research Institute. The administration will do field research and hold local meetings to address problems, including low rates of return, and financing and approval bottlenecks, Wang was quoted as saying. The industry appears unlikely to achieve the government’s goal of 8 gigawatts of capacity this year as work has not begun on any of the demonstration projects announced in September, the report said.
