Seven held in Qingdao land dispute death, website says

Seven people have been arrested in the death of a farmer over a land dispute in Pingdu county, Qingdao province, news website caijing.com.cn reported Wednesday, citing police sources. Three people were injured in the incident. Police confirmed the death was caused by arson at a tent outside a construction site on March 21. The fatality was inside the tent when fire broke out. Local villagers had set up the tent to protest the forcible acquisition of land by the local government and prevent the developer from taking over the property, the report said. The arrests included an employee of the developer and an official of the local village administration believed to be behind the attack.
