Royal Dutch Shell on Tuesday announced a plan to build in Shanghai the group’s third global research center for lubricants and oil products, Caixin.com reported Wednesday. The center will focus on lubricant product development and applications for China and the wider Asia region covering countries such as India, Indonesia, South Korea, Thailand and Vietnam, it said, citing a company statement. China is the world’s second largest lubricant market after the United States. Shell believes the Asian giant could become the largest market soon. Huibert Vigeveno, executive chairman of Shell’s China unit, was quoted as saying that the new research center also aims to tap the best talent in the country.
