Over 70 bln yuan earmarked for farm infrastructure, paper says

China will continue to strengthen funding support for the agriculture sector this year, with more than 70 billion yuan (US$11.27 billion) earmarked for farm-related infrastructure that will focus on water resources, Shanghai Securities News reported Thursday, citing Li Pumin, a spokesman for the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC). Gao Juncai, Director General of the NDRC’s Department of Rural Economy, was quoted as saying that the commission and the Ministry of Water Resources are preparing to put forward a batch of major water projects for the next few years. The projects will cover water resources, flood prevention, water saving, drinking water safety for rural areas and water ecology.
