ZTE Corp. (00763.HK) plans to ship 60 million smartphones this year, 40 percent of which will be LTE handsets, executive vice president Zeng Xuezhong said Thursday.
This compares with 100 million handsets shipped last year, including 40 million smartphones of which eight million were LTE models.
LTE smartphones will drive growth in the domestic market this year, Zeng said.
He expects the gross profit margin of ZTE’s handset business to grow this year as the company launches LTE handsets at a certain price point. He did did not elaborate.
In 2013, ZTE’s gross profit margin fell to 14.6 percent from 15.7 percent a year earlier, mainly due to intensifying competition in the 3.5-inch 3G handset market.
