Shanghai announces new rules on tourist permits, paper says

Shanghai authorities announced Tuesday a series of measures that aim to make it easier for people to arrange travel documents for Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan, or apply for a passport, Shanghai Daily reported Wednesday. Under the revised system a single form will be used for all applications for such documents, the Shanghai Exit & Entry Administration Bureau was quoted as saying. People can complete the form manually or using the new machines at the bureau, which take information from their identity cards. They can also use the machines to submit applications, and arrange collection times, it said. The processing time for permits has been cut to five days. Also, people with relatives in Taiwan can now apply for a one or three-year multiple entry permit, the report said.
