Baodao bonds open to European investors, paper says

European investors will soon to be able to invest in yuan-denominated bonds issued in Taiwan, also known as baodao bonds, as a trade settlement institution from Belgium was set to open an account with Taiwan Depository and Clearing Corp. Thursday, United Daily News reported, citing an official of the island’s finance authority. Another trade settlement institution from Europe is also preparing to open an account in Taiwan to create a secondary market for baodao bonds, according to the official. Meanwhile, Tseng Ming-chung, chairman of the Financial Supervision Commission, said such a secondary market could reach 100 billion yuan (US$16.1 billion) and the goal for new issues this year is 20 billion yuan, the report said.
