China to build 27 UHV electricity transmission lines, paper says

China plans to build 27 ultra-high-voltage (UHV) electricity transmission lines across the country amid growing demand for power distribution between coastal regions and inland provinces, Shanghai Securities Journal reported Thursday, citing a source with the State Grid Corp. of China. The National Energy Administration encourages the construction and operation of large pit-head power plants in coal-rich inland regions, as such facilities use coal more efficiently in generating electricity and thus help in reducing pollutant emission. Coastal areas then will mainly rely on electricity transmitted from the inland energy bases, the report said.
