China to monitor long-term smog impact on health, website says

China will begin monitoring the long-term impact of air pollution on health, news website china.com.cn reported Monday, citing Zhang Yong, a senior official of the Disease Control and Prevention Department under the National Health and Family Planning Commission. Also, the government will ramp up related research and strengthen collaboration between government departments. In 2012, more than seven million people died of causes linked to air pollution, with most of the deaths reported in medium to low-income countries, World Health Organization data shows.
