China on Sunday voiced objection to US Vice President Joe Biden’s meeting with two Hong Kong former legislators and called on Washington to refrain from interfering in Hong Kong’s affairs, Xinhua news agency reported. A spokesman for the office of the Commissioner of the Foreign Ministry of China in Hong Kong was quoted as saying that Hong Kong’s affairs are China’s internal matter and that Beijing objects firmly to interference by any nation in in any form. The comments came after Biden met with former Hong Kong Legislative Council member Lee Chu-ming and former Chief Secretary Chan Fang On-sang on Friday. The Hong Kong activists, who were on a two-week visit to North America, are said to have expressed concerns over freedom of the press in Hong Kong and threats to the city’s other core values.
