Deutsche Bank AG economist Ma Jun has been named chief economist of the research bureau of the People’s Bank of China, where he will help in guiding the nation’s economic reform, Bloomberg News reported Wednesday, citing a message he sent to clients and an internal Deutsche Bank memo.
“It is a great opportunity for me to be more involved in the next phase of China’s economic reform, which I expect to be very aggressive,” Ma, 50, told Bloomberg in an email response to questions about the move.
China is shifting to a more market-driven economic system amid slowing growth and rising credit risks, the report said. As part of the reform, the central bank is said to be working on removing constraints on interest rates for bank deposits, it added.
