Taxi apps have done a great job in hooking up customers and taxi drivers, but they also the hold the promise of serving other functions. Crime fighting, for one, could be one of their future roles.
A 33-year old Hong Kong taxi driver who has been in arrears in making rental payments on his vehicle has absconded, taking with him the taxi as well, according to a Metro Daily report. Failing to reach the driver, the taxi leasing company has offered a reward of HK$3,000 dollars through taxi apps to anyone who manages to get hold of the person.
At around 10:00 pm Tuesday, the taxi driver was spotted driving around for customers at Quarry Bay. The driver fled but was soon arrested by the police.
Going along the same line, a taxi app can be a powerful platform to launch searches for suspects of all sorts. Indeed, one can search for anything, such as lost pets or a lost person.
