Google Inc. said on Thursday that it will allow the general pubic in the United States to place orders for the company’s prototype wearable computer — Google Glass — in a one-day sale event next Tuesday, the Hong Kong Economic Journal reported Friday. The US internet giant described the move as a big step in development of the product, as it expands the cadre of early testers of the device.
Google did not specify how many units will be supplied at the event. According to the Google Glass website, the sale will last only 24 hours, starting at 9 am US Eastern Time on April 15. It will cost US$1,500 plus tax.
Any US resident can place orders, with no invitation required from the company. Previously, one could only buy the Glass upon invitation from the company to be a part of its “Explorers” team.
