Great Wall Motor Co. Ltd., through a local partner, has secured a license to manufacture energy-efficient vehicles in Malaysia, allowing it to boost its exports to Southeast Asia, the Wall Street Journal reported Thursday.
In a deal worth 2 billion ringgit (US$620 million), Go Automobile Manufacturing will build a new plant in Kedah, in northern Malaysia, to make 100,000 vehicles by 2018, the newspaper said. Sixty percent of the vehicles would be exported elsewhere in Southeast Asia, according to the Malaysian government.
Go Automobile already assembles Great Wall pickups and sports-utility vehicles, the report said.
