Shen Weichen, party secretary and deputy chairman of the China Association for Science and Technology, is under investigation for suspected serious violations of discipline and the law, according to a statement posted Saturday on the website of the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the Ministry of Supervision.
Shen is also one of the commission’s discipline inspectors.
No further reason was given for the investigation.
Shen, 58, was party secretary of Taiyuan in Shanxi province and deputy chief of the Communist Party Central Committee’s Publicity Department before assuming his present post in April last year.
The South China Morning Post reported Sunday that Shen is the 24th ministry-level official to come under investigation since Party Secretary Xi Jinping launched his crackdown on corruption in 2012.
