Cancer remains the leading cause of death among Beijing residents for the seventh straight year, China Daily reported Wednesday, citing a Beijing Times report. According to the Health and Family Planning Commission, 248 out of every 100,000 residents in Beijing had some form of cancer last year, with a death rate of 144 in every 100,000, the report said. The top five causes of death — which also included heart disease, cerebrovascular disease, respiratory disease, and injuries – accounted for 87 percent of all fatalities in the capital, it said. But the general health of Beijing residents showed signs of improvement last year and average life expectancy increased to 81.5 years.
