China is planning to appeal a World Trade Organization ruling that its export restrictions on rare-earth minerals violate global rules, the Wall Street Journal reported Wednesday.
Commerce Ministry spokesman Shen Danyang said the government will spare no effort in filing an appeal.
Last month, the WTO ruled in favor of the United States, the European Union and Japan which accused Beijing of violating trade rules by imposing quotas on rare earth exports.
The minerals are used in a range of critical technologies from smartphones to missile-defense systems. China has said the restrictions are in place for environmental protection reasons.
The US also lodged a notice of appeal in its WTO dispute, challenging restrictions that China has imposed on its rare-earth exports, the report said.
