They look and sound a lot like Top Gun but this time the star of the shows is China’s first aircraft carrier, the Liaoning.
Aviation Industry Corp. of China, which refitted the 67,500-ton ex-Soviet aircraft carrier for the People’s Liberation Army Navy, has released two promotional videos with the Liaoning at the center of the upbeat action, Apple Daily reported Tuesday.
The videos — “Lead the Dreams” and “Flying Sharks” — feature sea trials, takeoffs and landings by the carrier’s fleet of J-15 aircraft, as well as other naval drills.
The videos mark the navy’s 65th anniversary on April 23 and took more than a year to make, with the film crew spending extended periods onboard the vessel to capture life and training at sea.
Many mainland viewers criticized the videos for incorporating too many computer effects, saying they “lacked a soul”.
Earlier this month, US Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel and other American officials visited the Liaoning and said the carrier’s technical capabilities trailed far behind of those in the United States, the report said.
