Government troops in the Honghe Hani and Yi Autonomous Prefecture of southwest China’s Yunnan province are searching for a soldier who fled his post with his weapon on April 15, the Global Times reported Wednesday.
The People’s Liberation Army has offered a 100,000 yuan (US$16,032) reward for anyone who finds Chen Xin, 22, who went missing during field training in He-kou Yao Autonomous County, the report said, citing a notice posted on walls throughout the county which borders Vietnam. The notice also said the gun he took had no bullets.
Shanghai-based Oriental Morning Post quoted a source as saying that Chen disappeared while performing guard duty.
Border troops and local police have set up roadblocks in Honghe, the Post added.
