Baidu 1Q revenue up 59%, WSJ says

Baidu Inc. beat expectations to report a 59 percent rise in first-quarter revenue thanks to growth in its search business, the Wall Street Journal reported Thursday.

Baidu reported revenue of 9.5 billion yuan (US$1.53 billion), above its February guidance for between 9.24 billion yuan and 9.52 billion yuan, the report said.

But first-quarter profit was down to 2.53 billion yuan from 2.04 billion yuan a year earlier, it said.
