Polluters face stricter penalties under a tough new environmental protection law passed by China’s legislature, China Securities Journal reported Friday.
The new law sets no limits on penalties for offenders and holds local governments accountable for severe environmental incidents.
It sets improved disclosure standards on environmental issues and encourages public participation in related activities, the report said.
China is expected to roll out similarly tough measures to fight air pollution and conserve land and water resources.
