Porn costs Sina key internet license, Xinhua says

Sina.com, a major Chinese internet portal, has had its online and video distribution licenses revoked by the government after pornographic posts were found on its website, the official Xinhua news agency reported Friday, citing the National Office Against Pornographic and Illegal Publications.

Acting on public tip-offs, investigators found 20 articles and four videos on Sina.com containing pornographic content, the report said.

The State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television canceled Sina.com’s license to operate an internet publication and distribute video. It imposed unspecified fines, the report said.

The matter has been turned over to the police for further investigation.

On Thursday, Sina posted a public apology and promised to comply with the sanctions and punish those responsible, the report said.
