A headmaster in Hubei province has an unusual way of motivating his pupils to clean up their act — kiss a piglet.
That’s exactly what Hong Yaoming did to keep his end of the bargain after the children made good on their promise to improve school hygiene by cleaning up after their own mess, state news agency Xinhua reported Monday.
In fact, the results are beyond Hong’s expectations. A 200-meter path near the school is a far cry from its sorry state when the children — and passerby — would routinely rubbish it, especially after a meal.
Hong was inspired by an American teacher in Kansas who successfully motivated students with a similar promise, the report said.
Hong went a step further by inspecting the grounds every morning, using billboards and the campus radio to remind the children about hygiene practices, the report said.
How did the piglet take all this?
Quite gamely, apparently.
“It didn’t bite,” Hong said.
