Manila airport fracas morphs into international incident

The Chinese Embassy in Manila has lodged a solemn representation with the Bureau of Immigration in the Philippines after footage surfaced online of a Chinese woman being dragged, slapped and pushed by an official at Manila’s international airport, Headline Daily reported Wednesday.

The video clip shows a mainland woman being dragged from a room at Ninoy Aquino International Airport by a man believed to be an immigration official.

In the minute-long clip online since Saturday, the woman yells at the man and says she will “fight it out with you”, before hitting him with her handbag.

The man says: “You think you can do this in the Philippines?”. After several clashes, he slaps the woman in the face, pushes her into a room and locks her up.

A Chinese Embassy spokeswoman said Tuesday that embassy officials had been in contact with the woman and she was in a stable mental and physical condition.

The woman was deported from the country after the event, according to the Global Times.

The report said immigration officers denied the woman entry to the country because they suspected her of using a tourist visa to work illegally in the Philippines.
