The three-year-old daughter of an interior design company owner was returned to her family unharmed Tuesday after a former employee allegedly kidnapped her and held her for ransom, Apple Daily reported Wednesday.
The worker, surnamed Cheng, allegedly kidnapped the girl and sent a WeChat message to the child’s mother demanding she transfer HK$50,000 (US$6,430) to a specific bank account. The worker threatened that he “could do anything” if the money was not paid, the report said.
The parents went to the police and the police asked them to transfer the ransom. Officers then staked out the Tsing Yi housing estate of the former worker and nabbed him as he left his home with the child after eight hours.
Cheng was on quite good terms with his boss when he left the company, according to the report.
