Shenzhen police have arrested three people on suspicion of making and selling more than 1 million yuan (US$16.26 million) in fake iPhones, Apple Daily reported Friday.
The group allegedly bought iPhone components from various suppliers and assembled them, before selling an estimated 5,000 units online at discount to the real deal, the paper said.
Police seized a large number of finished products and parts, according to the report.
Separately, Guangzhou Daily reported that a 49-year-old man died in Fujian as he took a call on his iPhone 5 while the device was recharging.
His family was quoted as saying that he suffered burns to his neck and the hand holding the phone.
