Tunnels were flooded and the city’s highest rainstorm alert was raised for the second time this year as heavy rain swept Hong Kong Thursday night, Ming Pao Daily News reported Friday.
The Observatory issued a “black rain warning” when Wan Chai, Kwun Tong and Southern district were hit by more than 10 centimeters of rain by 10.30pm, the paper said.
Northern parts of the New Territories were the most water-logged, the report said. The Home Affairs Department opened an emergency coordination center to handle accidents.
A Mass Transit Railway official was quoted as saying that the company has not yet had any reports of flooding at work sites, and it took flood prevention measures when its Yuen Long construction site was inundated in a rainstorm in late March.
