Some people would give their right arm to work with giant pandas but now one research center is offering a top salary, food, housing and a company car to fill a job as a keeper for the national treasures, Xinhua reported over the weekend.
The China Protection and Research Center for the Giant Panda, backed by Sohu and Chang An Ford, is dangling an annual salary of 200,000 yuan (US$32,520) to lure applicants for the job and to convince more people to consider a career in panda protection, the paper said.
Heng Yi, from the protection center, was quoted as saying that the successful applicant will not only study how to feed and look after giant pandas, but also contribute to research on how to help them return to the wild.
The job will be based in Yaan, in Sichuan province, the heart of giant panda country.
About 80 percent of the volunteers at the center are from overseas, according to the report.
