Women soldiers from the People’s Liberation Army have for the first time formed part of an honor guard during a diplomatic ceremony, Xinhua reported Monday.
Thirteen women stood in the PLA’s honor guard alongside their male counterparts at the east gate of the Great Hall of the People Monday as President Xi Jinping hosted an event for Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov, Xinhua said.
The PLA’s first 30 female honor guards were recruited in February and had three months of intensive training. The guards are all at least 1.73 meters tall, and 80 percent of them have college degrees.
