Alibaba Group Holding Ltd. has named a one-time aide to a former US treasury secretary to head its international corporate affairs division, the Hong Kong Economic Journal reported Wednesday.
James Wilkinson, who was chief of staff to former US treasury secretary Henry Paulson, will take up the post and report directly to executive vice chairman Joseph Tsai.
The e-commerce giant aims to tap Wilkinson’s experience to cement the company’s overseas reputation and listing efforts in the United States.
Wilkinson has been executive vice president for communications at PepsiCo since 2012 and was a senior adviser on foreign affairs to former secretary of state Condoleezza Rice, analysts said.
John Spelich, Wilkinson’s predecessor, became Alibaba’s vice president for international e-commerce business development in February, according to his LinkedIn profile.
