Jack Ma in talks to buy Greentown FC

First it was e-commerce. Then it was online finance. Now Jack Ma, chairman of Alibaba Group Holdings, could be adding football and medical care to his portfolio, Apple Daily reported Friday.

Feng Zheng, chief financial officer of Greentown China Holdings Ltd. (03900.HK), confirmed that Ma is in talks to acquire Greentown Football Club and Greentown Hospital, both of which are privately owned by Greentown chairman Song Weiping.

Ma, who like Song is from Hangzhou, called on Alibaba employees to buy Greentown properties in 2011 when the real estate company faced cash flow problems, media reports said.

He is also thought to be interested in Greentown’s education business.

In response to the news, some netizens joked, “Can we use Ailpay to pay for Greentown football tickets?”
