Hong Kong dog lovers are up in arms against the publisher of a cookbook that features dog meat.
Celebrities Publishing Co. could face a lawsuit after netizens accused it of poor taste, the Hong Kong Economic Times reported Monday.
The offending recipe recently went on sale in Citistore in Tsuen Wan district, with dog meat cuisine one of 38 offerings, the report said.
Netizens and animal rights groups are threatening to sue the publisher. The store said it is investigating the issue and may return the books, the report said.
The slaughter of dogs and cats for consumption is illegal in Hong Kong and offenders face a fine and imprisonment.
Those who abet the practice are equally liable, a lawyer was quoted as saying.
