China will stop polluting industrial firms from getting access to land or launching projects if they fail to clean up contaminated soil, the Beijing News reported Wednesday, citing the Ministry of Environmental Protection.
Companies planning to close factories and move to new bases must first conduct soil assessments and remedy any contamination at the old site, the paper said.
In addition, the firms must release data on land and underground water quality to the public in a timely fashion.
According to a report released by the ministries of environmental protection and land resources, more than 30 percent of industrial land was polluted between 2005 and 2013.
