Ocean Park visitors in for a wild water ride

A sea turtle exhibit and an indoor wave pool are among the flood of new attractions destined for Ocean Park’s new water world under a blueprint submitted to the Environmental Protection Department.

The plans for the water park at Tai Shue Wan on the south side of Hong Kong Island also include a surf rider, outdoor spa pools and water slidesThe water park is expected to open in 2017 and cater to about 10,500 visitors a day.

Ocean Park chief executive Tom Mehrmann said earlier this year that the theme park will undergo yet another dramatic transformation with a master plan encompassing a 495-room hotel development

Lam’s Lai Sun Garment (Intl) Ltd. (00191.HK) and offshoot Lai Sun Development Co. Ltd. (00488.HK) announced in a stock exchange filing on May 19 that they had Ocean Park Corp.’s go-ahead to build the Ocean Hotel.

The park’s Shark Mystique attraction will open this summer and Adventures in Australia animal exhibit late this year.
