An alleged gunman who is believed to have killed himself in a standoff with police at the Kai Ching housing estate Sunday morning was the father of starlet Liddy Li, a woman at the center of a scandal involving married film director Oxide Pang Chun, Apple Daily reported Tuesday, citing police sources.
Liddy Li hit the headlines last week after she was photographed kissing Pang, who is married to Malaysian Chinese actress-singer Angelica Lee.
Her father, Li Tak-yan, 51, was found dead after officers surrounded his flat in Lok Ching House in a massive police operation. Li is suspected of fatally shooting 43-year-old air-conditioning technician Liu Kai-chung on the same estate Saturday night.
Sources said Li was not mentally ill but was a volatile and violent person. He had a record of violence, and was jailed for a year in 2010 for attacking a neighbor in Yuen Long.
Ming Pao Daily reported Tuesday that Li had kept at least 50 bullets at home, together with a Black Star pistol and a homemade firearm.
