Artificial mayonnaise? You couldn’t tell it if you tasted one made by Hampton Creek Foods Inc., a California maker of plant-based alternatives to the real thing.
That is precisely the idea, so it came to pass on Tuesday when Hampton invited some journalists and a number of business partners to its Just Mayo tasting, according to the Hong Kong Economic Journal.
As it turns out, the company had more up its chef’s sleeves — mayo in original, spicy, garlic and chilli garlic flavors.
In February, Hampton Creek raised US$23 million in a second round of funding led by Li’s Horizons Ventures. It is in talks with two or three partners for a planned expansion into mainland China.
Just Mayo will be available in Hong Kong this month, RTHK reported Tuesday, citing founder Josh Tetrick.
Could artificial eggs be far behind?
