Living for love: Terminally ill man weds girlfriend

Zhang Qiang doesn’t have long to live and although terminally ill, he refuses to die. He believes in the healing power of love.

The Xinji city native in Hebei province took his fight to the next stage by marrying his girlfriend in a hospital ceremony complete with the trappings of a proper wedding, except for an oxygen tank by his bedside.

The happy occasion came about because Zhang had decided to turn his life around. He had lost all hope and wanted to end it all by refusing to eat, Hebei Daily reported Monday.

But in a pre-wedding photo taken on May 22, you couldn’t tell any hint of such desperation. Bride and groom beamed in their nuptial best in a hospital room decorated for the event with the help of doctors and nurses.

Inspired and motivated by his wife’s loving care, Zhang said he will strive to live for love.

Doctors said Zhang’s condition has significantly improved. He now has a 50 percent chance of a complete recovery.

When first admitted to the hospital, Zhang was suffering from renal and liver failure and had large spots in his lungs.

Photos of the couple and their touching story went viral after nurses uploaded them on social media, the report said.
