Alibaba Group has linked up with Dragon TV, a subsidiary of Shanghai Media Group, to establish an entertainment platform combining the technologies of traditional media, the internet and mobile communications, Xinhua News Agency reported.
Announcing the deal at the 20th Shanghai TV Festival on Tuesday, Alibaba vice president Liu Chunning said the new platform will allow television viewers to interact with TV shows via their mobile devices, and also buy items featured on the programs from Alibaba’s online stores.
“We will soon set up a flagship store of Dragon TV on Tmall.com operated by Alibaba, so that the audience will be able to get what they see on TV,” Dragon TV director Li Yong was quoted as saying.
The two companies will also cooperate in Yulebao, Alibaba’s new wealth management platform that collects funds to invest in cultural products, including films, games, TV dramas and concerts, Liu told Xinhua.
