China strikes back at ‘hacking empire’

China has rejected the latest US claims of cyber hacking by the Chinese military, accusing the United States of being a “hacking empire”, Xinhua reported Tuesday, citing Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying.

A private US cyber security company accused a unit of China’s military of hacking satellite and aerospace programs, less than a month after the US announced an indictment against five Chinese military officers for alleged cyber theft, the report said.

“The US is a hacking empire,” Hua said. “It is not constructive for the US to attack others instead of repenting and correcting its own mistakes.”

Hua said revelations from former NSA contractor Edward Snowden show the US organized cyber theft, wiretapping and surveillance activities on a massive scale against political figures, enterprises and individuals in various countries including China.
