Some handy World Cup features from Twitter

Twitter has introduced a new set of features to help football fans keep track of their favorite teams during the World Cup matches in Brazil and increase their enjoyment of the games.

One function allows users to root for their national team by entering a hashtag (#) followed by a three-letter country code (#BRA for Brazil, for example) and the country’s flag will appear in their text messages. Appropriately called “hashflags”, the function aims to impart the World Cup flavor to tweets. Clicking on the hashflags will provide users with real-time news related to their team.

Twitter is also introducing a World Cup timeline function which users can access by typing #WorldCup2014. The timeline allows them to view World Cup-related tweets from people in their network, along with messages and comments from teams, players, coaches, press people, fans in the stadiums and celebrities.
