An anti-graft official has warned that “ideological problems” have been discovered at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS), the country’s leading think tank, the People’s Daily reported.
Zhang Yingwei, a senior discipline inspector with the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection (CCDI), said the academic institution has four major ideological problems, including using academic research as a disguise for other purposes, fabricating false theories using the internet, conducting illegal collusion during politically sensitive times and allowing peer-to-peer infiltration by foreign forces.
Stressing that China will not tolerate any collusion with foreign forces, Zhang asked staff and officials at all levels of the academy to “remain highly alert to politically sensitive issues with no exceptions” and “strengthen ideological construction”.
CASS is one of China’s most prominent academic research institutions, conducting researches and providing policy advice for the government. Its studies cover the economy, political analysis, legal affairs, history and ethnic groups.
Zhang issued the warning as the Chinese leadership is conducting a sweeping crackdown on graft, targeting government officials and state-owned enterprises.
