Magician Tam envies professional lensmen. Want to know why?

Albert Tam is a famous name in Hong Kong, having performed his magic shows before audiences for more than three decades. But he still feels that he is no match when compared to photographers in terms of drawing female attention.

Girls prefer to be around someone who takes nice pictures of them, rather than those amuse them through magic, he says.

Tam has performed both close-up magic and large-scale stage illusions in Hong Kong since the mid-1970s. One of the magic star masters in Asia, he is also known for bearing a close resemblance to popular Kung Fu actor Sammo Hung.

Awkward silence never seems to exist at any social occasion that Tam attends. To bring joy to people and add to the allure of his persona, he often absorbs himself in a wide range of films, TV dramas and stage plays and recites popular words.

“In almost every social occasion, as long as people know I’m a magician, they would require me to play some magic tricks,” Tam was quoted as saying in a Sing Tao Daily report Wednesday. No matter where he goes, he carries a pack of poker cards. “Even a cellphone can be my magic props,” he says.

Tam has also studied various other techniques including story-writing and visual and sound effects. Every year, he goes to magic conventions all around the world to find out the most up-to-date magic skills, products and technologies.

All these skills are awesome, but they somehow don’t seem to have done enough to convince Tam that he can face off with professional photographers in wooing female admirers.
